Whitchurch u13s v Aylesbury - Match Report PDF Print E-mail

Another game. Another Whitchurch win. On a glorious summer evening as slightly young and only 10-strong team took on Aylesbury Town, winning the match by 39 runs.

With only eight players at the start of the game, Kyle won the toss and elected to bat. The opening three batsmen (Kyle, 18; Jamie 8; and Will 20) did exactly as we hoped - keeping the score ticking over nicely getting to 55-1 off just 13 overs. A mini-collapse threatened when Ed was run out for a duck (and the score at 66-4) but luckily two late arrivals - Sam and Toby - were then able to bat. Taking the game to Aylesbury, the pair took the score to 98 when Toby was out for 12; Sam had to retire on 32 not out when he hit a glorious straight six. Elliot and Oscar finished off the last over, scoring one each - leaving Whitchurch on 109-5. A daunting 110 target for Aylesbury had been set.

The bowlers struggled to find the right line - giving away a staggering 24 in wides - but fortunately when on target the wickets tumbled steadily. Pick of the bowlers was Oscar who took 4-15 - and no wides! Everyone had a turn, risking at one point that Aylesbury could still snatch a win, and a draw looked possible until both Elliot and Kyle took wickets in the 18th and 19th overs, meaning that Whitchurch won with just seven balls to spare.

Batting - 109 for 5 off 20 overs
Kyle 18
Jamie 8
Will 20
Ed 0
Sam 32 no
Toby 12
Elliot 1 no
Oscar 1 no

Bowling - all out for 70 off 18.5 overs

         o - m - r -w
Toby 3-1-3-1
Will   3-0-9-1
Sam M 3-0-10-1
Oscar 3-0-15-4
Sam R 1-0-2-0
Ed M 2-1-4-1
Tom 1-0-9-0
Kyle 1.5-0-1-1
Elliot 1-0-10-0

Next game is on Monday June 8 away at Wendover.

I am also trying to organise a cup match vs Buckingham - watch this space!

Well done all

There are lots of cricket resources on the Internet, and there is nothing better than picking up some top tips from the experts whilst its raining outside.

The BBC have created the following for all players of the future !.

Drive off the front foot like Alastair Cook

Paul Collingwoods catching class

Throw like Paul Collingwood

If you find some interesting tidbit on the net - let your coach know and we'll include it here.

U13 Whitchurch v Long Marston - Match Report PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ant Mitchell

Well done all.

A special thanks to Ed, Ollie and Jake who stepped in at the last minute and to Oscar and Will A for making at all!

For those who weren't there, there was a comprehensive win for Whitchurch against the normally very very strong Long Marston team. Whitchurch won by 7 wickets with 10.1 overs to spare.

The game started slowly with the game evenly matched until the the fifth over which saw two wickets for Sam to be immediate followed by a wicket maiden from Will A . With Long Marston then at 16-4, there was no way back for them. A stream of bowlers then did the business, bowling LM out for a paltry 35 in just 14 overs. Wicket of the day was bizarre - a wide from Archie, swung at by the batsman, who then left his crease. The ever alert Jamie then stumped him - OUT, despite one very confused batsman.

It was looking good for Whitchurch with a low total to aim at, good light and a team that was thinking postively. Sam chose the batting order carefully and despite an opening maiden over, a four for Sam set the scoring on its way. Sadly, strange wicket number two happened before Archie could get going. What looked like an easy single turned into a "did he, will he" farce: with both Archie and Sam ending up at one end. Archie did the honorable thing and walked. A steady partnership of 27 then followed between Elliot and Sam before both were bowled with Sam - leading the team by example - scoring 23 including the first six of the season. Toby and Jamie carefully saw us to victory - despite some calls from the side-lines to whack it!

Long Marston
35 all out 14 overs
Bowling (overs-maidens-runs-wickets)
Sam 3-1-2-3
Toby 2-0-8-0
Will A 3-1-1-2
Ed 2-0-4-1
Oscar 2-0-2-1
Kyle 1-0-0-0
Archie 1-0-1-2

Whitchurch 36-3 9.5 overs
Sam 23
Archie 0
Elliot 3
Toby 2 no
Jamie 2 no

See you all on Thursday and Saturday for coaching :)

Otherwise, our next scheduled game is not until May 31 (away at Northchurch). However, it is likely that we'll play the Aylesbury game before then.

Well the Cricket Season has finally arrived – and what a season it promises to be!

With the Twenty20 World cup and The Australians coming to play ‘The Ashes’ this summer there should be plenty of fantastic cricket to inspire all the budding young cricketers of Whitchurch.

So let get going. Coaching will be every Saturday morning as usual, plus some extra Monday evening sessions for the u11’s and u13’s. Come match time, we should be ready to play our best.

Good luck to all the players!

It’s always great for the kids to watch ‘real live’ cricket to inspire them to dream of great things.

In the past we have taken groups to watch Twenty20 at Northampton. If anyone would like to volunteer to organise a trip to see one of these matches (or any other accessible venue) please let one of the team know.

They really are a great evening out!
